Semi-Trucks Can Cause Severe Trauma Because of Their Size and Weight
A semi-truck weighs far more than a passenger vehicle and sits higher above the roadway. When someone outside a vehicle is struck or run over, there is little protection from the truck’s weight and moving components.
Large trucks also have substantial blind spots along the sides, directly behind the trailer, and near the front of the cab. A nearby pedestrian may be difficult for a driver to see, particularly in parking lots or travel centers where trucks maneuver at close range.
Low-speed movement can still cause major harm because of a truck’s mass. Crushing forces may affect bones, muscles, internal organs, and other tissues. Lighting, driver visibility, walking paths, and the position of a truck during a turn can all influence risk around busy truck-stop properties.
