East Windsor, NJ (August 11, 2026) – A vehicle struck two pedestrians near the intersection of Route 33 East and Probasco Road shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday, August 9. The driver, identified as Herman J. Santos-Morales, left the area after the crash, according to East Windsor police.

Officers located the two pedestrians and began life-saving measures. A 37-year-old man died from his injuries, while a 21-year-old man suffered significant injuries and was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

Police later located and arrested Santos-Morales during their investigation. He faces multiple charges, including leaving the scene of an accident involving death and leaving the scene while driving with a suspended or revoked license. He was taken to the Mercer County Correctional Facility.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is still underway. Our thoughts are with the injured man as he continues to receive medical care.

What Happens When a Pedestrian Is Struck by a Vehicle?

Pedestrian crashes can cause severe injuries because people have little protection against a moving vehicle. The seriousness of the harm can depend on the vehicle’s speed, the point of contact, roadway conditions, and whether the person was in a marked crossing or another part of the roadway.

Medical treatment may include emergency care, diagnostic testing, surgery, or extended rehabilitation. Records from hospitals and other medical providers can document the nature and severity of injuries.

Evidence from the roadway can also help establish what happened. This may include vehicle damage, photographs, surveillance footage, witness statements, traffic signals, lighting, and roadway markings. Information about the driver’s actions and the pedestrian’s position can provide additional details about the circumstances surrounding a pedestrian crash.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
