Lexington, KY (July 24, 2026) — A man has been identified after he died in a wreck involving three vehicles, including a motorcycle, on Versailles Road in Lexington Thursday morning, July 23, according to the police. Officers were dispatched around 6:51 a.m. and found the three vehicles at the scene.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office identified the man as 43-year-old Shawn Taylor Wilson of Lexington. Coroner Gary Ginn ruled that Wilson’s death resulted from multiple blunt force injuries in the collision.

A specialized team was called in to reconstruct how the accident happened. Investigators have not released additional details about the other vehicles involved.

Our thoughts are with the Wilson family during this difficult time.

Why Motorcycles Are Easy to Miss in Traffic

Motorcycles present a much smaller profile on the road than cars or trucks, which makes them easy to overlook in a quick glance. A driver scanning traffic for other vehicles is usually looking for shapes roughly the size of a car, and a narrower motorcycle silhouette can blend into the background, especially against busy scenery or other traffic.

Blind spots make this problem worse. A motorcycle can sit in a car’s blind spot for several seconds without the driver ever noticing, particularly during a lane change or turn across traffic. This risk grows at intersections and on roads with multiple lanes moving in the same direction, where a motorcycle can be hidden behind a larger vehicle until the last moment.

Drivers are generally encouraged to do a full head check, not just a mirror glance, before changing lanes or turning across traffic. Riders can help by wearing bright or reflective gear and keeping their headlight on during the day, since both steps make it easier for other drivers to register a motorcycle’s presence in time.
