Augusta, GA (June 23, 2026) – A 70-year-old man lost his life following a fatal crash on Mike Padgett Highway in Augusta on Saturday evening, June 20.
According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the 4600 block of Mike Padgett Highway at approximately 8:50 p.m. after receiving reports of a serious motor vehicle collision.
Emergency responders arrived and found the victim, later identified by the Richmond County Coroner’s Office as 70-year-old Charles Cummings of Augusta.
Authorities said Cummings sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 9:52 p.m.
Officials have not released additional details regarding the circumstances of the collision. An autopsy has been scheduled as part of the ongoing investigation. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the crash.
