Why Motorcycle Crashes Can Result in Serious Injuries
Motorcycle crashes can be especially dangerous because riders have less protection than people inside passenger vehicles. Unlike cars and SUVs, motorcycles do not have a protective frame around the rider, making impacts with other vehicles or the roadway more severe.
Factors such as vehicle speed, visibility, road conditions, and driver awareness can affect the outcome of a motorcycle crash. Intersections can be particularly risky because drivers must watch for vehicles traveling from multiple directions, including smaller vehicles that may be harder to notice.
Safety equipment such as helmets, protective clothing, and proper riding gear can help reduce the severity of injuries during a crash. Road users sharing the same space can also reduce risks by remaining alert and allowing enough distance for unexpected situations.
