What Risks Are Associated With Head-On Collisions on Rural Highways?
Roadways with limited shoulders near U.S. Highway 56 can restrict responder access and increase crash severity. Injury accidents in Marion County often require safety buffers to protect both responders and drivers.
Head-on collisions are among the most dangerous types of crashes because of the combined forces of both vehicles. Crossing the center line, whether due to distraction, fatigue, or other factors, can quickly lead to high-impact incidents.
Rural highways may also have fewer barriers separating traffic directions. Staying alert, maintaining lane position, and avoiding distractions can help reduce the risk of these serious crashes.
