Why Pedestrian Crashes Involving Children Can Occur on Neighborhood Roads
Streets such as Whitney Avenue often carry both local traffic and vehicles traveling through residential areas. When children are present near the roadway, drivers may encounter sudden movements that are difficult to anticipate.
Young children can be harder for drivers to see, especially if they enter the road unexpectedly. Their smaller size and quick movements may reduce the amount of time a driver has to react.
Neighborhood roads sometimes have parked cars, driveways, and other visual barriers that can limit visibility. These conditions can increase the chance of a pedestrian crash if drivers and pedestrians do not see each other in time.
