How Left-Turn Collisions Often Impact Motorcyclists in Urban Areas
Motorcycles are smaller and less visible than passenger cars, especially at busy intersections. When a vehicle turns left across traffic, drivers may misjudge a motorcycle’s speed or fail to see it altogether. These situations often lead to severe crashes because riders have limited protection compared to those inside enclosed vehicles.
Urban corridors like Knight Arnold Rd and Ridgeway Rd carry steady traffic throughout the day. Multiple lanes, turning points, and nearby residential entrances can increase the risk of conflict between vehicles and motorcycles. Even a single moment of miscalculation can result in a life-altering outcome.
Left-turn collisions remain one of the most common types of fatal motorcycle crashes nationwide. Increased awareness, careful scanning for oncoming riders, and reduced speeds near intersections may help lower the risk in high-traffic areas.
