How Left-Turn Motorcycle Crashes Happen on Florida Roadways
Motorcycle crashes involving left-turning vehicles are among the most common fatal collision types in Florida. These incidents often occur when a vehicle turns across oncoming traffic and misjudges the speed or distance of an approaching motorcycle.
Motorcycles are smaller and can be harder to see, especially at dusk or in heavy traffic. On busy corridors like Courtenay Pkwy, multiple lanes and turning movements can increase the risk of conflict between vehicles traveling in opposite directions.
When a motorcycle is struck from the side, the rider has little physical protection. Being thrown from the bike can lead to severe or fatal harm, even at moderate speeds. Visibility, reaction time, and careful scanning of intersections all factor into reducing the likelihood of this type of crash on Florida roads.
