Frequently Asked Questions
How can drivers safely share the road with trucks and emergency vehicles?
Give large vehicles extra following distance, slow down when passing a blocked lane or roadside operation, and watch for reduced visibility around trucks, especially at night or in low light.
Does driver fatigue play a role in early-morning crashes?
Yes. Fatigue is a common factor in crashes that happen in the overnight and early-morning hours, when alertness and reaction time are typically lower.
What should I do after a crash involving a commercial or fire truck?
Stay in a safe location, call 911 if you haven't already, and let responding officers and emergency crews manage the scene. Get medical care even if injuries seem minor.
Why do trucks need more distance to stop than passenger vehicles?
Trucks and emergency vehicles are heavier and sit higher, so they require more distance and time to slow down or stop, which is why drivers are urged to leave extra space around them.
