Frequently Asked Questions
Are secondary crashes common after an initial wreck?
Yes. Stopped vehicles, debris, and drivers slowing to look can all create a risk of a second collision, which is one reason crews often work to clear lanes and block traffic quickly.
What makes multi-vehicle crashes hard to investigate?
Investigators typically have to sort out the order of impacts, speeds, and positions of each vehicle, often relying on physical evidence at the scene since accounts from those involved can vary.
What causes multi-vehicle pile-ups?
Common factors include sudden braking, reduced visibility, speed differences between vehicles, and road conditions, though a specific cause is not confirmed until investigators complete their review.
What to Do After a Multi-Vehicle Crash in Mettler, CA
If you're involved in a multi-vehicle crash, try to move to a safe spot away from traffic if you're able, and call 911 right away. Even if you feel fine, get checked by a medical professional, since injuries like internal bleeding or soft-tissue damage aren't always obvious right after a collision. Remember to take photos of the scene, the vehicles involved, and any visible damage if it's safe to do so. Get the names and contact information of other drivers and any witnesses. Finally, file a report with local law enforcement and keep a copy for your records.
