PORT ORCHARD, Kitsap County, Wash., Oct. 24, 2026 — Two people were hospitalized after a three-vehicle crash Friday morning, October 23, closed Long Lake Road in South Kitsap. A woman and a teenage passenger were hurt when their car collided with two other vehicles at the intersection with Sedgwick Road.
The Washington State Patrol said a 46-year-old Port Orchard woman was driving a Ford Flex south on Long Lake Road around 7:30 a.m. with a 13-year-old passenger in the car. As she turned onto Sedgwick Road, also known as State Route 160, troopers said a Ford Maverick pickup heading east toward the intersection struck the Flex. The impact reportedly pushed the Flex across the intersection, where it hit a Jeep Wrangler traveling north on Long Lake Road.
The Flex came to rest on its side and blocked the roadway along with the Jeep, according to the patrol. The pickup went into a ditch along Sedgwick Road; its driver, a 31-year-old man, was able to call 911 to report the crash.
The 46-year-old driver was taken to Tacoma General Hospital, and the teenage passenger was transported to Mary Bridge Children's Hospital in Tacoma, the patrol said. The pickup driver was injured but did not need to be taken from the scene by ambulance. The Jeep driver, a 37-year-old woman, was reportedly not hurt. Investigators said everyone involved had been wearing a seatbelt.
The state patrol determined the cause of the crash was the 46-year-old driver's failure to stop for oncoming traffic before turning. She faces a potential charge of second-degree negligent driving, according to the report. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected as factors.
We wish those injured a full recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
What should I do if I come upon a crash scene on the highway?
Slow down well before reaching the scene, turn on your hazard lights, and leave as much space as possible between your vehicle and the wreckage or emergency crews. Follow any instructions from officers directing traffic, and avoid stopping to look unless you're a witness and can pull safely off the roadway.
Why is following distance so important at intersections and on approach to turns?
Extra space gives a driver more time to react if a vehicle ahead slows suddenly or another car fails to yield. A longer following distance, especially near intersections, also gives a driver room to brake or steer around a car that pulls into their path unexpectedly.
Are secondary crashes common after an initial collision?
Yes. Once a crash blocks a lane or intersection, approaching drivers may have little time to react, which can lead to additional collisions. That's one reason responders ask drivers to slow down and move over well in advance of any crash scene.
What to Do After a Multi-Vehicle Crash in Port Orchard, WA
If you're involved in a multi-vehicle crash, check yourself and any passengers for injuries before doing anything else, and call 911 even if the damage looks minor. Try to move to a safe spot away from traffic if your vehicle is drivable and it's safe to do so. Make sure to exchange information with the other drivers involved, and take photos of all vehicles and the surrounding area if you're able.
Even if you feel fine at the scene, it's worth getting checked by a medical provider in the days that follow. Some injuries, particularly to the neck, back, or head, don't show symptoms right away. Keep a copy of the police report and any medical records, and follow up with your insurance company promptly to begin documenting what happened.
