Miami-Dade Co., FL (February 25, 2026) – One man died, and another was critically injured on Tuesday, February 24, after two tow trucks collided at the intersection of Biscayne Drive and Old Dixie Highway. The crash occurred near a fire station and caused one of the trucks to overturn.
Reports indicate a red Ford Super Duty tow truck was traveling south on Old Dixie Highway when it entered the intersection and struck a black Ford Super Duty tow truck approaching from Biscayne Drive. The impact lifted the red truck off the ground, then sent it crashing into a grassy area and flipping onto its roof.
Emergency units responded immediately due to the crash’s proximity to the station. The driver of the red tow truck was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the black tow truck suffered critical injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Debris covered parts of the roadway as crews worked to secure the area. The crash remains under investigation.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim and wish the injured driver a swift and full recovery.
What Makes Intersection Collisions So Severe?
Intersections are common sites for serious crashes because vehicles cross paths from different directions. When two larger vehicles enter at the same time, the impact force can be significant.
Tow trucks and other heavy-duty vehicles are designed to handle added weight. In a side-impact crash, that weight can cause a vehicle to spin or roll over. Overturning increases the risk of severe injury, especially if the roof comes into contact with the ground.
Clear traffic signals and driver attention are key at busy crossings. Even a brief delay in reaction time can lead to a high-impact collision when vehicles meet in the middle of an intersection.
