Miami, FL (January 7, 2026) – Two City of Miami Police motorcycle officers were hospitalized on Wednesday morning following a serious crash on the Dolphin Expressway that caused major delays during rush hour traffic. The collision occurred at approximately 9:45 a.m. in the westbound lanes, about half a mile west of Le Jeune Road.
According to investigators, four motormen were traveling westbound on the expressway when a black SUV abruptly cut off two of the officers. The maneuver caused the two motorcycles to become entangled and crash. The SUV driver fled the scene, prompting a search by law enforcement.
Aerial footage showed both police motorcycles on the shoulder with visible damage. Emergency medical personnel responded quickly, and the two injured officers were transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Officials confirmed that both officers are expected to recover. One, a 10-year veteran of the Miami Police Department, sustained a minor back injury, while the second officer suffered injuries to his shoulder and arm.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers, Miami Police officers, and Road Rangers responded to the crash and temporarily shut down three westbound lanes between Le Jeune Road and Red Road for cleanup and investigation. Motorists were advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes as the investigation continued.
Authorities are currently reviewing surveillance footage from nearby cameras in an effort to identify the driver of the black SUV who fled the scene.
