Why Center Line Crossings Often Lead to Fatal Head-on Collisions
Crossing the center line on a two-way highway can result in a direct impact with oncoming traffic. These crashes often occur at full travel speeds, which increases the force of the collision. The result is frequently severe or fatal injuries.
Distractions, fatigue, or medical events can cause a driver to drift into another lane. Even a momentary lapse in attention can lead to a tragic outcome. Two-lane highways without physical barriers present a higher risk of head-on crashes.
Drivers can reduce risk by staying focused and avoiding distractions. Keeping both hands on the wheel and staying within lane markings can help prevent center line crossings and protect everyone on the road.
