Why Passing Maneuvers Can Become Dangerous on Highways
Passing another vehicle on a highway requires careful timing, steady speed control, and enough clear space to return safely to the travel lane. Problems can develop quickly when a driver misjudges distance, traffic flow, or the movement of nearby vehicles. Towing trailers can also affect how a vehicle responds, especially during sudden steering maneuvers.
Rollover risks increase when a driver loses control at highway speeds or leaves the pavement. Sharp corrections and uneven ground near medians may make it harder for tires to maintain traction.
In many roadway investigations, specialists review lane positioning, vehicle speed, tire marks, and roadway design to better understand how a rollover developed. Weather and pavement conditions are also commonly examined, even when roads are reported dry.
