MILWAUKEE, Milwaukee County, Wis., Nov. 2, 2026 — An 18-year-old driver died on Sunday night, November 1, at South Layton Boulevard and West Greenfield Avenue, after police said a vehicle fleeing officers slammed into the teen's car in Milwaukee.
Officers first spotted a reckless driver near South 23rd Street and West Greenfield Avenue just after 10 p.m. Sunday. Officers reportedly saw the same vehicle again a short time later near South Muskego Avenue and West Mitchell Street and tried to stop it, but the driver kept going.
The chase ended when the fleeing vehicle struck another car at South Layton Boulevard and West Greenfield Avenue. Video from the scene around 11 p.m. showed heavy damage to both vehicles on opposite corners of the intersection. The 18-year-old driver of the vehicle that was hit died at the scene.
Police arrested the 36-year-old driver of the fleeing vehicle. A 28-year-old passenger in that vehicle suffered serious injuries, according to police, who said illegal narcotics were recovered during the arrest. A neighbor who lives near the intersection said speeding and crashes are common on that stretch of road.
The circumstances of the chase and the crash remain under investigation.
Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased.
