Somis, CA (August 11, 2026) – A head-on accident involving two SUVs on westbound SR 118 near Bradley Rd left people with minor injuries Monday afternoon. The California Highway Patrol classified the collision as a minor-injury crash at 1:15 p.m.

The vehicles were described as a gray Honda SUV and a silver Honda SUV. Neither vehicle was considered drivable after the wreck, according to the CAD record.

One SUV was reported on the right side of the highway, while the other went into a field. A vehicle was later reported about 20 feet off an embankment, and a tow service was requested.

Emergency units were notified after the accident, and additional support was requested. The cause of the collision has not been established, and the investigation remains underway. We hope those hurt recover fully.

What Can Make Head-On Crashes More Serious?

Head-on crashes can be particularly dangerous because vehicles traveling toward each other can create strong forces when they meet. The severity of injuries may depend on speed, vehicle size, restraint use, and the position of people inside the vehicles.

Seat belts help keep occupants in their seating positions during sudden changes in motion. Airbags can provide another layer of protection by cushioning parts of the body during certain types of impacts.

Road design and visibility can also affect the risk of a head-on crash. Curves, narrow lanes, poor lighting, and limited sight distance may reduce the time available to recognize another vehicle. Staying within designated lanes, maintaining a safe speed, and avoiding distractions can help reduce these risks.
