Lathrop, CA (August 11, 2026) – A two-vehicle accident on southbound I-5 near Roth Rd left people with minor injuries Tuesday afternoon. The California Highway Patrol changed the classification from unknown injuries to minor injuries at 1:47 p.m.

A red Subaru was reported on the right side of the freeway, while a black midsize vehicle came to rest down an embankment. One vehicle was facing the wrong way and partially blocking Lane 1.

The collision also blocked part of the freeway. A tow service was requested for a Lexus SUV, and the CAD record listed two vehicles with injuries.

The circumstances surrounding the wreck remain under review as more details are gathered. We hope those hurt make a full and steady recovery.

What Can Increase the Risk of Injury in Highway Crashes?

Highway crashes can cause injuries even when vehicles remain largely intact. Travel speed, traffic density, vehicle size, and the position of occupants can all affect the severity of harm.

Seat belts are one of the most effective ways to reduce injury risk during a crash. They help keep occupants in place and can reduce movement inside the passenger compartment. Airbags provide additional protection during certain types of impacts.

Roadside hazards can also increase danger after a vehicle leaves the travel lanes. Embankments, uneven ground, barriers, and nearby traffic may create additional risks. Drivers can reduce their exposure by maintaining safe speeds, leaving enough following distance, and staying alert to changing traffic conditions.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
