Lafayette, CA (June 13, 2026) – A multi-vehicle crash with minor injuries was reported on eastbound SR-24 near the Acalanes Rd on-ramp early on Friday morning. The collision was first reported around 3:31 a.m. along the right shoulder of the highway.
Initial reports indicated three vehicles were involved. One person was seen outside an SUV following the crash, while it was initially unclear whether additional vehicles were involved or if some drivers had stopped to assist. The collision was later classified as involving minor injuries.
The crash caused damage to approximately 25 feet of guardrail, several wooden support posts, and a nearby light pole. The slow lane was temporarily blocked while crews worked in the area, and tow trucks were requested to remove damaged vehicles.
Investigators continue to review the circumstances surrounding the collision. We are thinking of those affected and wish them a smooth recovery.
Why Guardrail Damage Is Usually Reviewed After Highway Crashes
Guardrails are designed to redirect vehicles and reduce the likelihood of more severe outcomes when a vehicle leaves its travel lane. When these barriers are struck, investigators often examine the damage to determine vehicle movement before and after contact.
The extent of damage to guardrails, support posts, and nearby roadway structures can help establish the force and direction of travel. Highway crashes involving roadside barriers may also affect traffic flow while repairs are completed. Reviewing these physical indicators can provide additional insight into how a collision unfolded and the factors that contributed to it.
