Why Head-on Crashes Tend to Result in Severe Outcomes
Head-on crashes are among the most serious types of roadway collisions because the force from both vehicles is directed toward each other. Even at moderate speeds, the combined force can cause extensive vehicle damage and severe injuries.
Investigators often review lane positions, vehicle movement, and roadway conditions when examining these crashes. Tire marks, debris patterns, and final resting positions can help explain how the vehicles came together. These factors are commonly used to better understand the sequence of events leading up to a fatal roadway collision.
