Santa Cruz, CA (July 18, 2026) – A two-vehicle traffic accident resulting in minor injuries was reported on Friday afternoon on southbound SR-1 just north of the State Park exit in Santa Cruz. The collision was reported at approximately 3:46 p.m. on July 17.

According to the initial report, the wreck involved a white Nissan Altima and a gray Kia SUV. The reporting party stated there were children in one of the vehicles. The incident was initially reported as a no-injury collision, then updated to reflect injuries, and later classified as a minor-injury crash.

One vehicle came to rest in the fast lane, while another remained drivable. A vehicle was also reported to be smoking, prompting notification of emergency units. Both vehicles were later relocated to a nearby gas station near Searidge and McGregor, and one lane was temporarily closed. The identities of those involved have not been released.

Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision, and additional information may become available.

We wish those hurt a full and speedy recovery.

Why Injury Reports May Change After a Traffic Collision

The first reports of a traffic collision are frequently based on information from people at the roadway, and those details may change as emergency personnel complete their evaluations. A crash that initially appears to involve no injuries can later be reclassified if someone reports pain or medical concerns after the initial assessment.

Investigators also review vehicle positions, roadway conditions, and physical evidence to better understand how the collision occurred. When children are involved, responders usually take extra care during medical evaluations because some symptoms may not be immediately noticeable. As more verified information becomes available, official reports are updated to reflect the most accurate account of the collision.
