Modesto, CA (April 29, 2026) – A crash involving an overturned vehicle on Monday afternoon left one person hurt at the Highway 99 off-ramp to Highway 219, also known as Kiernan Avenue, in Modesto.
Emergency units responded around 1:30 p.m. on April 28, after a 2024 Toyota Camry exited northbound Highway 99 onto eastbound Highway 219. Authorities said the driver, 21-year-old Abdulrahman Sekandari of Modesto, was traveling too fast to safely make the turn, causing the vehicle to veer off course and overturn.
After overturning, the Toyota collided with a 2008 Honda Civic driven by 19-year-old Emanuel Espinoza Barajas, also of Modesto. The vehicles came to rest after the impact, with the Toyota ending up against a fence.
Sekandari suffered minor injuries but was not taken to the hospital. No injuries were reported for the other driver.
Traffic in the area was affected for about 90 minutes as crews worked to clear the scene. Authorities indicated that reckless driving charges may be pursued in connection with the crash.
