How Ramp and Connector Crashes Can Become Severe on High-Speed Highways
Crashes that occur on freeway connectors and ramps often involve sudden changes in speed and direction. Drivers may be merging, exiting, or adjusting lanes within a short distance, which can increase the risk of side-impact collisions.
T-bone crashes are especially dangerous because the side of a vehicle offers less protection compared to the front or rear. When impact occurs at higher speeds, the force can cause serious injuries or fatalities.
Traffic conditions in connector areas can also reduce reaction time. Vehicles may be close together, leaving limited space for drivers to avoid sudden hazards or stopped traffic ahead.
Emergency response and traffic control are often required to secure the area and prevent further collisions while the roadway is cleared and the scene is investigated.
