MONROE TOWNSHIP, Cumberland County, Pa., Nov. 2, 2026 — Two women were seriously hurt on Saturday morning, October 31, when a tractor-trailer collided with their car at an intersection in Cumberland County, according to state police. The crash happened around 8:30 a.m. at North Susquehanna Trail and Ninth Street in Monroe Township.
State police said a 2026 Freightliner tractor-trailer was heading south on North Susquehanna Trail when its driver entered the intersection against a red light and struck a northbound 2016 Nissan Versa.
The driver of the Nissan, a 20 year old woman, and her passenger, also 20, both suffered suspected serious injuries. Dauntless Hook and Ladder Ambulance League took both women to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. The truck driver, a 36 year old man, was not reported injured.
Investigators said the impact spun the Nissan counterclockwise through the intersection. The car then left the roadway, hit a curb and came to rest on the southbound shoulder of North Susquehanna Trail. Police said multiple witnesses were interviewed and surveillance video captured the crash.
State police said the truck driver was cited for failing to stop at a red light.
We wish the injured a complete recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is distracted driving considered so risky?
Even a few seconds of taking your eyes off the road means traveling a good distance without seeing what's ahead, which can be enough time to miss a stopped car, a red light or a pedestrian.
How do weather and road surface conditions play into crashes like this?
Rain, fog, ice or glare can cut down visibility and stopping distance, making it harder for drivers to react in time at intersections or while merging.
What should someone do right after a crash like this one?
Call 911, move to safety if possible, avoid moving anyone who may be seriously hurt, and wait for police and medical responders to arrive and document the scene.
