FOSTER CITY, San Mateo County, Calif., Nov. 2, 2026 — A chain of crashes on the westbound high-rise section of State Route 92 left at least one person injured on Saturday afternoon, October 31, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incidents unfolded on westbound SR-92 on the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge high-rise, where a stalled vehicle in the roadway appears to have touched off a series of collisions, the CHP said. Dispatch logs show a white pickup truck stopped in the number one lane shortly before 2 p.m., followed by reports of a car with its hood up on the shoulder minutes later.
By around 2:15 p.m., the CHP said a gray SUV collided with a stalled white dump truck in the same lane. Logs also describe a separate collision between a 2018 dark gray Mazda CX-5 and a blue Nissan Altima, with the Nissan reportedly left in unknown condition as to whether it could still be driven. The agency's log lists no injuries from that specific collision, though the broader incident was later reclassified from a traffic hazard to a crash with minor injuries.
Within minutes, the CHP reported that a three-vehicle crash with minor injuries and a separate two-vehicle crash with no reported injuries were both confirmed at the same location on the bridge. The collisions blocked multiple lanes, including the number one lane and middle lanes of the high-rise, during the response.
We wish those injured a full recovery.
