Montebello, CA (January 11, 2026) – One person was tragically killed early on Saturday morning in a crash involving a semi-truck on the eastbound Pomona (60) Freeway near North Garfield Avenue. The fatal collision was reported at approximately 3:04 a.m. on January 10, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials confirmed that the victim was driving a white sedan when it collided with a semi-trailer for reasons still under investigation. The Montebello Fire Department arrived at the scene and pronounced the driver of the sedan deceased. The identity of the victim has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
Following the crash, a SigAlert was issued at 3:40 a.m. for the closure of one lane on the eastbound side of the freeway at the North Garfield Ave exit. Traffic was impacted for several hours as emergency crews responded and investigators documented the scene. The alert was canceled just before 6:45 a.m.
Details regarding the events leading up to the collision remain unclear. Authorities are working to determine whether speed, visibility, driver impairment, or other factors contributed to the deadly crash.
