Martin Co., FL (June 18, 2026) – A major multi-vehicle crash slowed the Thursday morning commute on Interstate 95 in Martin County.
The accident happened just after 8:00 a.m. on June 18 in the northbound lanes near mile marker 103. Florida 511 classified the crash as major, and two right lanes remained blocked as of the 8:07 a.m. update.
Traffic camera images showed heavy congestion building behind the blocked lanes. Vehicles were stacking up as crews worked to clear the roadway during the busy morning drive through the Treasure Coast.
A Road Ranger was at the site assisting with traffic and roadway safety. Officials urged drivers approaching the area to use caution and follow Florida’s Move Over or Slow Down law near stopped emergency or service vehicles.
The Martin County crash remains under review as more details are confirmed. We hope everyone involved gets better.
Morning Commute Crashes Can Quickly Create Heavy Backups
Morning commute crashes can cause long delays because many drivers are already on the road at the same time. When several vehicles are involved, blocked lanes can reduce traffic flow almost immediately.
Interstate backups can also grow when drivers slow near damaged vehicles, lane closures, or service crews. Even a partial blockage can force traffic into fewer lanes, creating stop-and-go movement for miles behind the crash.
Busy highways can become more risky during these slowdowns. Drivers may brake suddenly, merge late, or become distracted while watching activity ahead. After a major freeway crash, roadway teams often focus on clearing lanes, guiding traffic, and making sure stopped vehicles and workers are protected before normal travel resumes.
