Philadelphia, PA (June 18, 2026) – A 23-year-old man lost his life following a head-on collision involving an Infiniti G35 and a Nissan NV3500 van in Philadelphia’s Tacony neighborhood.
According to police, emergency units were called to the 7200 block of Torresdale Avenue shortly after 10 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, after reports of a serious roadway crash. Upon arrival, crews found that the Infiniti and the van had struck each other while traveling in opposite directions.
Investigators said two brothers were traveling in the Infiniti, including an 18-year-old driver and a 23-year-old front-seat passenger. Neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt, and both sustained head injuries. Darius Santoni, who was riding in the front passenger seat, was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died. The younger brother remains in critical condition.
Preliminary findings indicate the Infiniti was traveling northbound on Torresdale Avenue when it moved around a double-parked vehicle and crossed into the southbound lane. The car then collided with the approaching van.
Police continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the fatal wreck as additional details are gathered.
We extend our heartfelt sympathies to Darius Santoni’s family and friends during this difficult time.
How Do Investigators Evaluate Head-On Collisions?
Head-on crashes are among the most severe types of roadway collisions because the force generated by two vehicles traveling toward one another can result in significant damage and serious injuries. After such a crash, investigators typically review vehicle positions, roadway markings, witness statements, and any available surveillance or dash-camera footage.
Speed, lane usage, visibility, and driver actions before the collision are usually examined to better understand how the vehicles came into contact. Investigators may also inspect physical evidence left on the roadway, including tire marks and debris patterns. Information from vehicle data systems can sometimes provide insight into braking, steering, and travel speed before the crash occurred.
The findings gathered during this process help create a clearer picture of the sequence of events and may assist in determining contributing factors.
