Oxford Township, MI (June 18, 2026) – A 30-year-old man from Attica Township was critically hurt following a serious collision involving a semi-truck early on Wednesday morning, June 17, in Oxford Township.

The crash happened shortly before 5:30 a.m., along North Lapeer Road near Oakwood Road. According to information released by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the man was driving a 2014 Buick Regal southbound when a semi-truck attempted to use a median crossover and turned into the path of the car.

The two vehicles collided, causing extensive damage to the Buick and leaving the driver trapped inside. Emergency units arrived and worked to remove the man from the vehicle before he was taken to McLaren Oakland Hospital. He remained in critical condition as of the latest update.

The semi-truck driver was not hurt. Investigators said alcohol and drugs do not appear to have contributed to the accident, though speed by the Buick driver may have been a factor. Questions surrounding the cause of the crash are still being examined as investigators continue gathering information.

We send our best wishes to the injured man and hope for his recovery.

How Median Crossover Crashes Can Occur on Multi-Lane Roads

Median crossovers are designed to allow certain vehicles to move between opposing directions of travel, but they can also create risks when drivers misjudge approaching traffic. On busy roadways, vehicles traveling at highway speeds may have limited time to react when another vehicle enters their path.

Investigators reviewing these types of crashes usually examine factors such as vehicle speed, sight distance, road design, traffic flow, and driver actions leading up to the collision. Damage patterns, roadway markings, and witness accounts can also help establish how the sequence of events unfolded.

Because speed can significantly reduce reaction time and increase stopping distance, even small differences in travel speed may affect a driver’s ability to avoid a roadway hazard. Information gathered during the review process helps provide a clearer picture of what occurred and may contribute to future roadway safety improvements.
