Punta Gorda, FL (July 17, 2026) – A fatal crash caused lane and ramp closures on Thursday morning, July 16, on US-17 near Interstate 75 in Charlotte County.
The major collision was reported at approximately 7:32 a.m. on the westbound US-17 before I-75. According to the initial traffic alert, the left lane was blocked, along with the northbound entrance ramp to I-75 near Exit 164.
Authorities confirmed that the crash resulted in at least one death. The available report did not identify the person who died or provide information about any additional injuries.
