What Is Reviewed in Pedestrian Strikes Involving a Leaving Vehicle
After situations where a pedestrian is struck and a vehicle leaves before contact with law enforcement, investigators often rely on physical evidence and nearby recordings. Surface markings, debris patterns, and vehicle parts left behind can help outline how the person and vehicle moved before separation.
Surveillance video from businesses or traffic systems may also be examined to identify vehicle direction and timing. Witness accounts, when available, can provide additional details about what was seen before and after the contact.
Weather and lighting conditions are often reviewed to understand visibility at the time. Medical findings later help confirm the severity of harm and timing of injuries. Each detail is compared to build a clearer timeline of how the sequence developed.
