How Sudden Movement Can Cause Injury in a Small Crash
A collision does not have to cause major vehicle damage to leave occupants with pain or other symptoms. Sudden movement can strain the neck, back, shoulders, and other soft tissues.
Seat belts and airbags help reduce the risk of injury, but occupants can still experience soreness, bruising, headaches, or stiffness after an impact. Some symptoms may not become noticeable until several hours later.
Travel speed, impact angle, seating position, and restraint use can all influence how the body reacts during a crash. Even when injuries are described as minor, medical evaluation may help identify problems that are not immediately obvious.
