Marengo, IL (August 28, 2026) – A motorcyclist was seriously injured on Wednesday, August 26, after being ejected during a two-vehicle crash at a Marengo-area intersection. The collision occurred at Dunham Road and West Union Road.

Marengo Fire & Rescue and Union Fire Protection District crews were dispatched around 11:16 a.m. Responders found a motorcycle and minivan that had collided in the intersection. The woman riding the motorcycle was thrown from the bike and found lying in the roadway. Fire officials said the motorcycle became lodged in the driver’s side of the minivan.

Paramedics treated the motorcyclist at the scene and determined that she had serious injuries. A medical helicopter landed on West Union Road, just east of the intersection, and flew her to Javon Bea Hospital–Riverside in Rockford. The minivan’s occupants were evaluated at the scene and reported no injuries.

Dunham Road and West Union Road remained closed in all directions for more than an hour while emergency crews worked at the scene. The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the collision.

Our thoughts are with the injured motorcyclist.

What Happens When a Motorcyclist Is Ejected in a Crash?

Motorcycle crashes can result in serious injuries because riders have less protection than people inside enclosed vehicles. Being thrown from a motorcycle can expose a rider to additional impacts with the roadway, another vehicle, or nearby objects.

The severity of injuries can depend on factors such as the speed of the vehicles, the point of impact, and whether the rider was wearing protective equipment. Helmets, jackets, gloves, and other riding gear can provide added protection, although they cannot prevent every injury.

After a motorcycle collision, medical teams may evaluate the rider for visible and less obvious injuries. Damage to the motorcycle and other vehicles can also help establish how the impact occurred. Road conditions, traffic signs, and witness accounts may provide additional context.
