What Motorcyclists and Drivers Should Know About Serious Crashes
Motorcycle collisions can result in serious injuries because riders have less physical protection than occupants of passenger vehicles. Helmets and protective riding gear can help reduce the severity of some injuries during an impact.
Drivers should actively look for motorcycles when approaching intersections, turning, or changing lanes. Motorcycles can be smaller and harder to see among surrounding vehicles, making careful observation especially important.
Motorcyclists can improve their safety by maintaining a visible position, following traffic signals, and adjusting speed to roadway conditions. Leaving enough space from other vehicles can also provide additional time to respond when traffic changes unexpectedly.
