Why Can Motorcycle and Pickup Truck Crashes Cause Serious Injuries?
Motorcyclists have far less protection than occupants inside pickup trucks. During an impact, a rider may be thrown from the bike or strike the larger vehicle, pavement, or another hard surface.
The difference in vehicle size and weight can also affect how force is transferred during the collision. The head, chest, spine, arms, and legs may all be vulnerable.
Travel speed, contact angle, protective gear, and the point of impact can influence injury severity. Medical teams may need to check for fractures, brain trauma, internal injuries, or spinal damage after a strong motorcycle collision.
