Skandia, MI (July 7, 2026) – A motorcycle passenger died, and the rider was seriously injured after a collision Sunday afternoon, July 5, at US-41 and Carlshend Road in Skandia Township. The accident was reported at about 1:40 p.m.
The woman who died was identified as Lisa Smale, 59, of Christmas. A preliminary report said a pickup truck was traveling west on M-94 when it and a motorcycle traveling south on US-41 were involved at the intersection.
Smale was riding as a passenger on the motorcycle and lost her life at the scene. The male rider was taken to a hospital with serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Passengers in the pickup truck were not hurt. Authorities continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the fatal wreck and are seeking any additional witness information.
