Why Turning Vehicles Can Create Risks for Motorcyclists

Motorcycles can be more difficult to notice compared with larger vehicles, especially when drivers are making turns across traffic. Left turns, driveway entrances, and parking lot access points are common areas where motorcycles and other vehicles may cross paths.

Drivers must check for all approaching traffic before turning, while motorcyclists rely on visibility, safe speeds, and defensive riding practices to reduce risks. Even a low-speed impact can result in serious injuries because riders have less physical protection than people inside passenger vehicles.

Crash reviews examine factors such as vehicle movements, roadway conditions, visibility, and driver actions. These details can help explain how a collision occurred and what circumstances may have contributed.
