Sandwich, MA (June 18, 2026) – A 65-year-old motorcyclist was airlifted to a hospital after a crash involving a car on Tuesday afternoon, June 16, in Sandwich, according to local police.

Officers and fire crews responded to the collision shortly after 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Old County Road and Route 6A. Authorities said the crash involved a motorcycle and a Toyota Corolla.

Investigators identified the injured rider as a 65-year-old man from Barnstable. Police said he suffered serious injuries and required emergency air transport to an area hospital for treatment.

Officials have not released any updates regarding the motorcyclist’s condition.

The driver of the Toyota, a 39-year-old Sandwich man, was not injured in the crash. Police said he remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

The circumstances leading up to the collision remain under investigation.

Motorcycle Crashes Result in Serious Injuries

Motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable in traffic collisions because they lack the protective structure provided by passenger vehicles. Even crashes occurring at moderate speeds can result in severe injuries requiring emergency medical care.

Investigators reviewing motorcycle collisions examine vehicle movements, right-of-way issues, roadway conditions, and witness statements to determine how the crash occurred. Visibility and driver awareness are also common factors considered during these investigations.

When a rider sustains serious injuries, authorities may conduct a more detailed review of the scene to establish the sequence of events and identify any contributing circumstances.
