Kansas City, MO (August 9, 2026) – Authorities are investigating an accident that led to a motorcyclist and passenger being seriously injured after their motorcycle rear-ended a car in rush-hour traffic near downtown Kansas City.
The crash happened at about 7:50 a.m. on Friday, August 7, on northbound U.S. 71/Bruce R. Watkins Drive near East 19th Street. A preliminary investigation found that the pair was traveling north on a Honda Gold Wing when it struck the rear of a black Ford Fusion stopped in traffic. The motorcyclist and passenger were taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The Fusion driver was not hurt.
Both motorcycle occupants remained hospitalized in serious but stable condition. Traffic restrictions followed the crash, with multiple left lanes closed for a period before all lanes reopened by 9:15 a.m.
