Why Motorcycle Crashes Often Result in Severe Injuries
Motorcycle riders face a greater risk of serious injury in traffic crashes because they have less physical protection than occupants of enclosed vehicles. Even when protective gear is worn, riders can be exposed to significant forces during a collision.
The severity of injuries often depends on factors such as speed, angle of contact, roadway conditions, and whether the rider is separated from the motorcycle. Intersections can be especially challenging because vehicles traveling in different directions must share the same space as they make turns, stop, or cross paths.
When investigating motorcycle crashes, analysts commonly review vehicle positions, roadway markings, sightlines, and witness statements. These details help establish how the vehicles approached one another and what factors may have contributed to the collision.
