Fairfax, IA (June 10, 2026) – One person was injured in a three-vehicle crash near a Casey’s General Store in Fairfax on Tuesday, June 9. The collision was reported at approximately 5:35 p.m. in the 65 block of Williams Blvd.
Investigators said a Ford F-250 driven by 41-year-old Randall Griffith of Pinehurst, Texas, was exiting the Casey’s parking lot when it entered the roadway and struck a southbound Toyota Camry. The contact caused the Camry to spin into the northbound lane, where it collided with a Dodge truck.
When emergency units arrived, they found the Toyota with significant passenger-side damage and the Dodge truck with heavy front-end damage near the entrance to the store. A passenger in the Ford F-250 was injured in the crash. No drivers were reported hurt.
Police charged Griffith with making an unsafe turn onto the roadway. The extent of the passenger’s injuries was not immediately released.
The circumstances surrounding the collision continue to be reviewed. We wish the injured person a smooth and complete recovery.
Why Parking Lot Exits Can Be High-Risk Traffic Areas
Crashes frequently occur when vehicles enter a roadway from parking lots, driveways, or commercial entrances. Drivers leaving these areas must judge traffic speed, gaps between vehicles, and conditions in multiple directions before proceeding.
A misjudgment during this process can lead to side-impact collisions, which may cause a struck vehicle to rotate or move into adjacent lanes. When that happens, secondary collisions involving additional vehicles can occur within seconds.
Investigators often examine sightlines, traffic flow, vehicle positions, and roadway markings when reviewing these crashes. Commercial properties with frequent vehicle movement can present added challenges because drivers are entering and exiting throughout the day. Careful attention to approaching traffic and adequate gap selection are among the factors that can help reduce the likelihood of these types of roadway collisions.
