Avondale, AZ (June 19, 2026) – A motorcyclist reportedly lost their life following a morning crash on Interstate 10 near Avondale Boulevard in Avondale on Wednesday, June 17. Officials reported the crash happened around 8:00 a.m.
First responders arrived at the scene after receiving reports of a collision involving a motorcycle and multiple vehicles. Preliminary findings indicate that a motorcycle and a passenger car were traveling westbound in the HOV lane while another vehicle with a flat tire was stopped on the left shoulder and partially blocking the lane.
Investigators reported that the driver of the passenger car was changing lanes as the motorcyclist attempted to pass on the left side of the HOV lane. The rider then struck the rear of the disabled vehicle. The impact ejected the motorcyclist into the roadway, where the rider was then struck by an approaching vehicle that was unable to stop in time.
The motorcyclist was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, the rider later succumbed to their injuries. The victim’s identity has not been released. Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of the deceased.
Why Disabled Vehicles Near Travel Lanes Can Increase Crash Risks
Vehicles that become disabled on highways can create dangerous situations for approaching motorists, particularly when they are partially blocking an active lane. Drivers traveling at highway speeds may have limited time to recognize a hazard and safely react, especially during periods of heavy traffic.
Motorcyclists can face additional challenges because they have less protection than occupants of passenger vehicles. Sudden lane changes, obstacles near the roadway, and unexpected traffic conditions may increase the likelihood of a collision. Even a relatively minor impact can lead to serious injuries if a rider is thrown from the motorcycle.
After a highway crash, investigators review vehicle positions, traffic flow, roadway conditions, and witness accounts. These details can help establish the sequence of events and provide a clearer understanding of how the collision occurred.
