Why Can Motorcycle Crashes Cause Serious Injuries at Intersections?
Motorcyclists have far less protection than people inside passenger vehicles. At intersections, riders may be exposed to side, angled, or turning impacts that can produce substantial force.
A rider may also be thrown from the motorcycle and strike the pavement, another vehicle, or nearby roadside objects. Head, chest, spinal, and limb injuries are common concerns after these collisions.
Travel speed, impact angle, protective gear, visibility, and vehicle position can all affect injury severity. Intersections can be especially complex because several traffic movements may converge within a relatively small area.
