How Left-Turn Crashes Involving Motorcycles Are Examined
Motorcycle and vehicle collisions at turns often involve a review of visibility, traffic movement, and the actions of each driver or rider. Motorcycles are smaller than most vehicles, which can make them harder to notice during heavy traffic or when turning.
Investigators may examine roadway design, lane positions, traffic signs, and available video footage when reviewing these types of crashes. Vehicle damage and physical evidence can also help explain how the vehicles moved before contact occurred.
Riders have less protection than people inside enclosed vehicles, which can increase the severity of injuries. Wearing protective gear and staying aware of turning vehicles can help reduce risks for motorcycle riders.
