Why Motorcycle Collisions Affect Multiple Freeway Lanes
Motorcycle collisions can create traffic disruptions even when only a small number of vehicles are involved. A motorcycle and its rider may come to rest in separate parts of the roadway, requiring lane closures to protect everyone at the scene and allow damaged vehicles to be removed safely.
Freeway connectors are especially vulnerable to congestion because they carry merging traffic between major highways. Temporary lane closures can quickly lead to backups as drivers slow down and merge into fewer open lanes. Once the roadway has been cleared and hazards have been addressed, traffic generally returns to normal, although delays may persist until congestion eases.
