Why Motorcycle Crashes Result in Severe Outcomes
Motorcycle crashes usually result in more serious injuries than crashes involving only passenger vehicles because riders have less physical protection. Unlike occupants inside enclosed vehicles, motorcyclists are exposed to direct contact with the roadway and surrounding objects during a collision.
Several factors can influence the severity of injuries in these crashes, including travel speed, roadway design, traffic density, visibility, and the point of contact between vehicles. Protective gear can help reduce certain risks, but riders remain vulnerable to significant harm in a crash.
Following a motorcycle collision, investigators frequently review vehicle positions, roadway evidence, witness accounts, and damage patterns. These details can help establish how the vehicles interacted and provide a clearer understanding of the sequence of events leading up to the crash.
