Why Bicycle Crashes Can Result in Serious Injuries
Bicyclists have limited protection compared with people inside motor vehicles, which can make collisions more dangerous. Even when vehicles are traveling at moderate speeds, the impact can cause serious injuries to riders.
Crashes involving bicycles often require careful review of factors such as visibility, roadway conditions, traffic patterns, and the movements of both the driver and cyclist. Intersections can be challenging because multiple vehicles and road users are moving through the same area.
Safety measures such as proper lighting, reflective equipment, helmets, and awareness from all roadway users can help reduce risks. Investigators often review available evidence to better understand how a bicycle crash occurred.
