New Buffalo Twp., MI (July 17, 2026) – A 45-year-old motorcyclist from Niles died after being struck from behind in a multi-vehicle crash on Thursday afternoon, July 16, on US-12 near Lubke Road.
First responders were called to the intersection at approximately 12:30 p.m. According to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office, the impact ejected the rider from the motorcycle and caused severe head injuries.
The motorcyclist was transported to Franciscan Hospital in Michigan City for surgery, but later died from his injuries. His identity had not been publicly released. The minivan driver suffered minor injuries and declined treatment, while the driver of a third vehicle was not hurt.
Both directions of US-12 were closed for about two hours while emergency crews worked and investigators documented the scene. Authorities continue reviewing the circumstances of the collision.
