Lindenhurst, NY (August 6, 2026) – A motorcyclist was killed in a crash early on Wednesday morning, August 5, on Montauk Highway near Chestnut Street in Lindenhurst.

The crash happened around 1:42 a.m. when Carlos Henao, 33, of Massapequa, was riding a 2019 Harley-Davidson westbound on Montauk Highway and attempted to pass two vehicles traveling in the same direction, according to Suffolk County police.

Police said the motorcycle struck the rear of a 2019 Dodge Ram and a 2023 Honda CR-V after both vehicles moved into the right lane. Henao was ejected from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Honda, Brieonna McGinn, 28, of Massapequa, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. Police said they did not determine that intoxication caused the crash. The vehicles involved were impounded for safety inspections, and the investigation remains ongoing.

We extend our condolences to the family and loved ones of the person who died.

How Are Motorcycle Crashes Investigated?

Motorcycle crashes require detailed investigations because riders can be seriously injured even when multiple factors contribute to the collision. Investigators typically examine vehicle damage, roadway conditions, witness statements, and available evidence from the scene.

In crashes involving several vehicles, authorities work to determine the sequence of events, including vehicle movements before impact and whether any traffic violations or other contributing factors were involved.

Safety inspections of the involved vehicles may help investigators identify mechanical issues or document crash-related damage. These findings, along with other evidence, help officials determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
